Although saving natural teeth is our priority, for some patients this isn’t an option, and they may require professionally fitted dentures (or false teeth). Dentures are designed to look and feel like natural teeth and are made from a combination of metal and acrylic materials.
Without the support of a denture, over time face muscles begin to sag, giving you a premature aged appearance. Importantly, dentures allow the patient to regain their ability to eat and speak which is often taken for granted with natural teeth.
Types of dentures
Complete or full dentures. As the name suggests, this appliance is required when a patient requires the removal (or already missing) all natural teeth on the upper or lower jaw (or both).
Partial dentures. This appliance is used when some teeth are missing on one jaw, with the remaining natural teeth used as an anchor.
Dentures are a removable appliance and initially, some patients may take time to feel comfortable with the fit and feel. In some cases, adjustments to the denture will be necessary to ensure the best fit.
Unlike dental implants or crowns, dentures will require additional daily care and maintenance in order to keep them in top condition. Regular check-ups will ensure the longevity of your dentures and that they are correctly fitted.
General dentistry (often referred to as family dentistry), encompasses a variety of treatments aimed at the patient’s overall oral care.
Dental Implants are the closest restoration you can get to healthy, natural teeth. They are posts made of titanium, surgically positioned into the bone beneath the gum. A porcelain crown is then inserted onto the post to create your new, natural looking tooth.
A smile makeover has many benefits which aren’t necessarily only related to the patient’s oral health. Aside from the oral benefits, a smile makeover can be an aid to the patients overall health. Many patients seeking cosmetic work report they live with anxiety or embarrassment due to their oral “quirks of nature” or the effects aging or lifestyle choices has had on their teeth. This can lead to self-esteem issues, lack of confidence and general withdrawal or depression in the patient’s day to day activities.
